The sun is set to undergo a complete reversal of it's magnetic field. This means that the north magnetic pole becomes the south magnetic pole, and vice versa.

This is a normal event for the sun when it reaches a Grand Maximum. We have recorded three such flips over the years. Why the sun does so is still a mystery, but it seems to be fairly harmless. No ill effects happened during the previous flips, at least so far as we can tell.
Some people theorize the flip might have an effect on solar radiation and thus Earth's climate, but this link is only speculative. Other prople think that the reversal temporarily puts the sun without a magnetic field, whcih could allow more high energy cosmic rays to enter the solar system.
We just don't know. In any case, these are exciting times to be a solar observer.
