Let’s say you are a science teacher or principal and are trying to have your students learn about the wonders of the world around them. But you don’t want to just impart information - you want to inspire, excite and shape the kids in your class. You’d love to watch them turn into the next generation of scientists, but you know that using textbooks and even the internet can sometimes be ineffective with young minds. You’d love to bring the principles of geology or astronomy to life, but field trips to planetariums and other areas can be costly and impractical. So what is an educator to do?
At Science First, we have a solution that will have you looking up - literally! Our STARLAB is the world’s first portable planetarium that can conveniently bring the magic of earth and space science into your classroom or auditorium. By paring our high-tech digital projector with our roomy and comfortable inflatable dome, we’ve created a combination that’s sure to get your students learning and loving it! Don’t be surprised if even the parents will want a peek inside. Best of all, the system is simple to use and set up, and can be moved where needed quickly and easily.
When you purchase a digital projector and dome from Science First, you are buying the finest equipment of its kind in its price range. Consider these specifications:
Resolution - The Digital STARLAB features a 1200 pixel diameter image size and provides full high definition projection across the dome. It’s as clear as if you were gazing up in an area completely free from light pollution (a real-world feat that isn’t easy to pull off these days!).
Brightness - This level is measured in lumens as defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). To ensure a clear image, it is recommended that a projector have at output of at least 1000 lumens. Our digital projector features an output of 4000 lumens.
Contrast - This refers to the ratio between the darkest and lightest areas of an image. Our projector has a 400:1 ratio to ensure a perfectly balanced image that is crisp and clear.
Lens - The DIgital STARLAB is set with a custom-built fisheye lens that provides optimal clarity even near the horizon. It projects at a full 199 degrees unlike the more common 155 found with similar systems. And you won’t run into the “rainbow effect” that you may find with other lenses.
